Old Lyme's unique ecology makes it a remarkable destination. Nature lovers and artists alike continue to be drawn to the beauty of our woodland hills and meandering estuaries. Explore the forests, rivers, and access to Long Island Sound. Consider taking part in bird walks by the Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center, a September Swallow Cruise, or a self-guided tour of native pollinator public gardens  across town.

Hiking Trails

Old Lyme has over 20 hiking trails for a variety of experience levels and scenery. Whether you hope to reach a lookout over the Connecticut River, or traverse woodlands that include ancient caves, your hike is here.

Paddle Sports

Sometimes the best way to see sites is by way of paddle. The changing foliage along our estuaries is lovely, and  the autumn swallow mumurations are breathtaking.  Rowing on Rogers Lake is a favorite past time of many Old Lymers.

Marinas and Fishing Charters

Five different marinas in Old Lyme provide slips and moorings for a variety of boat lengths as well as other necessary amenities. You might also consider hiring a local captain to take you out on the water to catch a fish or a sunset.

Beaches

Sound View Beach is an easy walk from most beach cottages with an Italian ice or carousel ride as a fun treat on the walk home. Town beach parking passes are available to residents, and most beach associations have their own private beaches.

Recreational Parks and Driving Range

A game of tennis or access to basketball hoops can make a family vacation that much more enjoyable. Old Lyme has public tennis and basketball courts just a short distance from the beaches and 100 Acres Driving Range just down the road.

Residents enjoy a variety of recreational leagues for all ages. Whether looking for a youth lacrosse club, a weeknight men's basketball league, or a rowing association for all ages, there are numerous options for recreation and leisure here.
